March 20th 2019 – At midnight a Company that once had a significant role in – MAYFLOWER – from the days when it was the Empire in the 1930s through to the 1950s will cease to exist. In the 1930s Gaumont British took over the management and the booking of the Empire, 20th Century Fox was a major shareholder in Gaumont and all of their film product played at the theatre. After they divested their shareholding, they still used the circuit for their releases until a dispute in 1954 over the installation of CinemaScope in Rank theatres got them to switch to other outlets.
